Why did you choose Hood College?
I chose to come to Hood College because my friend from back home, Nick Slawson, told me that Hood was a great school. He persuaded me to come to Hood by telling me about the great atmosphere, the excellent professors and that I would be able to continue playing tennis.
Have you participated in an internship or leadership opportunity in the local area or on campus?
I am a member of the SAAC/SPURS organization. This organization lets experienced collegiate athletes become mentors for freshman athletes who still might need help learning how to balance academics and athletics. I plan to pursue a psychology-related internship next year.
If so, what did you gain from that experience?
SAAC/SPURS helped me strive to become the best student athlete that I could be. Also, it is nice when the students I am mentoring honestly want to listen to my advice. It allows me to know that the organization I am a part of is important.
What is your most memorable experience at Hood?
My most memorable experience from Hood has to be any of the tennis matches that I competed in. These experiences are very important to me because I have made great friends like my old roommate Richard Hershey. Also, being able to be a teammate with my brother Josh is something that I will treasure forever.
What do you value most about your relationships with your professors?
I value the fact that my professors are willing to help me and get to know me. Each professor that I have had in the psychology department has never let any of my questions go unanswered. They honestly care about the questions that I come to them with and that means a lot to me. Also, they are always interested in my plans for the future, and will give me advice for how to make these plans a reality.
What is something that surprised you about Hood?
I was surprised by the amount of activities and clubs that are offered at Hood. There is something for everyone, and it allows for everyone to be involved with the campus.
What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?
The most rewarding class I have taken is Experimental Research Methods with Dr. Farreras because I was able to conduct my own psychological experiment. While it was very challenging, it helped me realize that I truly wanted to pursue a career in psychology.
When you aren’t in class, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
In my spare time my I like to go to the game room with my friends, or play tennis.
What is your favorite campus event?
My favorite campus event has to be Stress Busters. Being able to play with dogs before finals is a great way for someone to relax and forget about school for a while.
