Why did you choose Hood College?
I chose Hood because it was a new challenge in my life. Moving from Bosnia-Herzegovina to the United States was not an easy transition, but I found a home away from home.
Have you participated in an internship or leadership opportunity in the local area or on campus?
My most significant local experience was interning for the United Way of Frederick County in the beginning of my junior year, which led to the summer job in the summer of 2015 where I was a Summer Serve Counselor.
What did you gain from that experience?
Summer Serve is a service-based camp with participants ages 12-17. Thanks to this experience, I got to know the Frederick community in a different light. We volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, Seed of Life Nurseries, Food Bank, Rescue Mission, Gale Recovery, Heartly House, Community Living, and many more organizations with the purpose of helping and serving the community.
What is your most memorable experience at Hood?
My most memorable experience at Hood is the most recent one during Convocation. When I first put on my senior gown to prepare for the Convocation ceremony that marks the official start of a new academic year, I felt excited, accomplished and energized for my senior year. I never could have imagined that I would have a life-changing experience 5,000 miles away from the culture I grew up in. Hood College helped me find myself and wherever the path leads from this moment on, I will forever be grateful for this opportunity.
What do you value most about your relationships with your professors?
I value the fact that professors at Hood are here to help answer any questions and concerns. The Business department has been extremely helpful during my college career thus far. I am positive that they will guide me with their advice and expertise until the moment I hold my undergraduate degree.
What is something that surprised you about Hood?
I was most surprised with the diversity we have on campus; people with different backgrounds and stories. Another surprising aspect is that everyone is so nice and welcoming, from students to faculty and staff members.
What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?
My most rewarding class was Principles of Management which helped me find my passion and decide what I am going to major in.
When you aren’t in class, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I enjoy walking in Baker Park, which is right next to Hood. I also like reading in Hood’s library while listening to Ed Sheeran.
What is your favorite campus event?
My favorite campus events are Blockbuster Movie nights and Late Night Strawberry breakfast.
