Why did you choose Hood College?

I chose Hood because of the beautiful campus, the small class sizes and to continue my family’s legacy by attending the college my dad went to for Graduate School.

What is your most memorable experience at Hood?

My most memorable experience at Hood would have to be when I discovered my passion for teaching. I entered college thinking that I wanted to major in business management, but quickly realized that it wasn’t for me. My sophomore year, after taking many different courses in a variety of subjects, I finally found that education was what inspired me and held my passions. Being able to touch the lives of my students and give them a positive, supportive learning environment is what I am excited about doing each day. Hood gave me the opportunity to find what I was passionate about and then make that my career path.

What is something that surprised you about Hood?

The homey feel that the campus has is what surprised me about Hood. I entered college terrified of being in a new place with no familiar faces, but quickly found that the students, faculty and staff were very welcoming.

What opportunity were you most grateful for?

I am most grateful for being given the opportunity to attend college. There are so many who aren’t given the chance and I feel beyond lucky to be the first on my mother’s side to attend and complete college.

What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?

My most rewarding academic experience was when I was accepted into three National Honor Societies on campus, one of which is the International Honor Society in Education, which I held the position of secretary in. Knowing that my hard work and effort was being recognized was gratifying, but being able to apply my skills to help others through community service projects was extremely rewarding.

What is your favorite campus event?

My favorite campus event is May Madness because this is one of the traditions that draws almost all students out to the quad to celebrate the end of the year together. The games, attractions, food and friends make the celebration exciting and inviting to all. Spending the day out in the sun with friends is something that I look forward to all year!

What are your goals for the near and distant future?

My goals for the near future include acquiring a job in the field of education. I am currently interviewing with Frederick, Howard and Anne Arundel County Public School Systems. Future goals include continuing to better myself in all areas, helping as many people as I can and pursuing community service projects.

How has your Hood education benefited you?

My Hood education has opened my eyes to different perspectives, given me the chance to explore diverse subject matter, and provided me with different alumina and faculty to network with. By taking all of the required core courses I was able to take classes that have nothing to do with my major, but inspired me to pursue my interests outside of education. I will take this love of learning with me throughout life.

What would you say to students applying to Hood?

If I could say anything to students who are applying to Hood it would be to try everything you can. This is the time in your life when you can take any classes you want, try new foods, meet diverse people and figure out who you want to be. Don’t be afraid to test your limits and explore your interests. Make plenty of mistakes and then learn from them. Find the people who make you enjoy staying up late to write papers and complete assignments because they’re there to do it with you. Don’t be afraid to want to major in one subject and then completely change your mind only to major in another. College is the time to find what makes you truly happy and then go after it. Hood is a wonderful place to do exactly this because of the resources and opportunities that the college can provide you with. Good luck!
