Why did you choose Hood College?

I chose Hood College because of its welcoming atmosphere, beautiful campus and accomplished faculty. Also, Hood’s location provides many internship and volunteer opportunities.

What is your most memorable experience at Hood?

It’s difficult to choose one because I’ve had many memorable and valuable experiences here at Hood. However, I will definitely always remember winning the pink spoon as a freshman with the rest of Memorial Hall at Policies for Dollars.

What is something that surprised you about Hood?

The diversity. I’ve met some of the most amazing people here at Hood. Everyone here has something unique and special to share, and this diversity truly enriches Hood.

What opportunity were you most grateful for?

I am most grateful for the Summer Research Institute grant I received during the summer following my junior year thanks to Hood College and, specifically, Dr. Course. Through the SRI grant, I was able to conduct independent research at the National Library of France in Paris, improve my French language skills, broaden my horizons and ultimately grow as an individual. Words cannot begin to express how thankful I am that I received this opportunity and the lessons learned and memories made during this experience will surely last a lifetime.

What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?

My most rewarding academic experience was, by far, being invited to complete a departmental honors thesis in sociology. Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the difficult process of conducting sociological research, and I am grateful to everyone who had any involvement in the development and progression of my research and thesis. Beyond what I learned about the research process though, this experience taught me how to accept, appreciate and apply criticism to enhance and refine my writing—allowing me to grow as an individual.

What is your favorite campus event?

It’s honestly too difficult to choose. All of the campus events are great and worth attending!

What are your goals for the near and distant future?

I will be pursuing graduate studies in sociology and I hope to eventually attain a position in sociological research or higher education.

How has your Hood education benefited you?

My Hood education has completely transformed my worldview and has been a catalyst to the immense personal growth I experienced during my four years here at Hood. From being a member of the Honors Program to conducting independent research in Paris, my Hood education has provided me with countless opportunities to generate new interests, to challenge myself intellectually and to become an informed global citizen. Ultimately, my Hood education has truly shaped me as an individual and as a scholar, and has prepared me to pursue my professional goals and aspirations.

What would you say to students applying to Hood?

Hood is truly an amazing and special place. Meet new people, try new things, ask questions and approach your education and experiences here with an open mind. Also, four years will go by fast, so try to make the most of your time here and enjoy it.
