How has your Hood education benefited you?

The greatest benefit Hood provided me was an excellent preparation for dental school. Professional school demands you to give it all you have in order to succeed. Hood definitely prepared me for these demands and challenges.

How did your time at Hood prepare you for the future?

Hood provided me with the academics and guidance that I needed to gain admission to and succeed in dental school.

What were your extracurricular experiences?

My wife and I were commuter students who lived about 45 minutes away from campus so we didn’t have time to participate in extracurricular activities. I’m sure we would have if we had lived closer.

Did you decide your major right away?

I transferred from Hagerstown Community College as a biology major so I definitely wanted to continue studying biology at Hood. The biology program fully prepared me in meeting the requirements necessary to apply to dental school.

What is your favorite memory of Hood?

I would have to say just being in the lab. Lab gave me the opportunity to get to know other students and professors better. Also, I enjoyed working with my hands in the lab—I guess that’s why I’m in dental school!

Who were your mentors at Hood?

I would like to say there was more than one. My biology mentor was Professor Boyd. She was very helpful assisting me when it came to scheduling courses for the following semester so I could graduate on time. Professor Flora always seemed to be there to talk to me about anything. Even though he wasn’t a biology professor he gave me some advice when it came to applying to dental school and I was grateful for that. I even took an extra physics course just because he was a great person to be around.

What is your opinion on the value of a Hood education?

The value of education I received at Hood is priceless. It not only provided me with the tools to succeed in dental school, but also it provided me with the tools to succeed in life.

What is your opinion on the value of a liberal arts education?

It’s important to have a well-rounded education. It helps you see the world from all different angles.

What would you say to students applying to Hood?

Try and take in a little bit of everything. There is a lot more to Hood than just sitting in class and taking tests. There are plenty of opportunities out there whether on campus or off campus.

What role has your Hood education played in your career?

I would have to say Hood prepared me academically for dental school.

Why did you choose to attend Hood College?

As a transfer student, I wanted to make sure all of my credits would transfer. Hood not only accepted all of my credits but I entered as a third year student. Also, the scholarships and grants really helped me with tuition.
