Why did you choose Hood College?

I chose Hood because it was close to home, so I could easily commute. I also chose Hood because it had a friendly atmosphere and was small, so I knew I would be able to get to know professors more personally (which I did).

What is your most memorable experience at Hood?

My most memorable experiences were my interactions with faculty, staff and friends. They made my time at Hood really enjoyable and they were definitely the best part of my undergraduate experience.

What is something that surprised you about Hood?

I was most surprised by the number of commuters and that there is an organization that advocates for those commuters. The college really makes an effort to include all of its students and enables them to have a fantastic experience.

What opportunity were you most grateful for?

I was grateful for a large number of opportunities at Hood! One of the ones I was most grateful for was the opportunity to work in the accounting office. I gained experience in many different facets of accounting and I appreciated getting that experience. I was also grateful for the opportunity to have a relationship with faculty and staff members that went beyond academics.

What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?

My most rewarding academic experience was writing a Departmental Honors paper for the Economics and Business Administration Department. The faculty invited me to write the paper and worked with me during the entirety of my senior year, which I really enjoyed. I gained a lot of research experience, which included how to conduct interviews, how to develop a survey and how to analyze data. I loved working with the faculty and appreciated that I was able to represent the department with my research.

What is your favorite campus event?

As a commuter, my favorite campus events are Commuter Days!

What are your goals for the near and distant future?

I hope to travel for a few months after graduation. Then I hope to get a job in the accounting field and attend graduate school (ideally at Hood!). I also want to start a family once I have a stable job and enjoy my life!

How has your Hood education benefited you?

The liberal arts education I received from Hood has benefited me because I not only have knowledge in accounting and economics, but in a variety of other subjects as well. Hood also encourages service in courses and clubs/organizations and those experiences gave me a new perspective on the world.

What would you say to students applying to Hood?

Take advantage of your time at Hood and try to get involved and meet new people! Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and try everything, but make sure you can balance your time to perform well in classes. And don’t forget to have fun!
