Why did you choose Hood College?

I chose Hood because I really liked the programs available, especially the opportunities for pre-medical students on campus and in the community. I also liked the small campus and class sizes because they gave me the ability to know my classmates and professors better.

Have you participated in an internship or leadership opportunity in the local area or on campus?

I have participated in a research internship at USAMRIID at Fort Detrick near campus. I am also the president of Alpha Lambda Delta, an honors society on campus.

If so, what did you can from that experience?

My internship was very valuable because it allowed me to apply knowledge gained in courses outside of the classroom and also gave me the opportunity to work independently. My position as an ALD officer has been a valuable leadership opportunity that allowed me to be more active on campus and the community at large.

What is your most memorable experience at Hood?

My most memorable experience so far at Hood was the New York City trip with the Honors College, I really enjoyed seeing the city with my friends and the Broadway show afterwards was amazing.

What do you value most about your relationships with your professors?

I really like that I feel as though I can go to my professors with any kind of problem; they are really open to answering questions and giving advice.

What is something that surprised you about Hood?

I was not sure if being a commuter would impact my ability to be involved on campus, but all the students are kept well informed of opportunities and events. Plus, the Commuter Council actively works to make commuter students part of the Hood community.

What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?

My most rewarding class was the Honors class Plagues and Peoples because it not only allowed me to study history from a biological perspective, but it was an academic experience I would not have had if I was not in the Honors College.

When you aren’t in class, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Outside of class my favorite thing to do is read novels.

How has the Honors Program benefitted you?

The Honors Program has allowed me to study subjects outside of my major that I probably would not have taken classes in if it were not for the program.

How do you think the program will benefit you in the future? What kinds of things has the program helped prepare you to do in the future?

I think the Honors Program has allowed me to take full advantage of a liberal arts education, which I believe will make me a better-rounded graduate.

What’s your advice to future Honors Program students?

I think the Honors Program has allowed me to take full advantage of a liberal arts education, which I believe will make me a better-rounded graduate.
