Why did you choose Hood College?
Hood College was the only school that made me feel like they were lucky to have me instead of the other way around.
Have you participated in an internship or leadership opportunity in the local area or on campus?
I’ve done many service leadership projects both on and off campus. My largest leadership project that I have undertaken is being a Girl Scout Leader, which I’ve been since my freshmen year if college.
If so, what did you gain from that experience?
I’ve gained an ability to compromise and accept advice from all parties involved even if I’m in charge of the year event. Extra help and volunteers is never a bad thing and everyone’s talents should be utilized.
What is your most memorable experience at Hood?
The Coastal Studies Program and Honors Program have provided me with so many unforgettable moments, I can’t even begin to pick one.
What do you value most about your relationships with your professors?
I value my friendships with my professors the most. I wouldn’t trade that kind of relationship where I can openly talk to my professors about both life and lecture openly and joyfully for anything.
What is something that surprised you about Hood?
The strong relationship between the Frederick Community and Hood College surprised me.
What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?
My most rewarding experience has been the Coastal Studies Program. It has provided me with the kind of field experience and networking that I don’t believe I would have gotten at any other school.
When you aren’t in class what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
My favorite thing to do outside of class is hike. I’ll take off for a new adventure with my backpack and hammock whenever I can.
What is your favorite campus event?
Food day is my favorite event on campus. Not only are the common issues with food shown, such as food deserts, but the event is also catered with delicious vegan food.
How has the honors program benefitted you?
The Honors Program has provided me with opportunities that I might have never been exposed to otherwise. It put me in classes that I would not have taken otherwise because they’re out of my major. I also have gone to many Shakespearian places and musicals, which I had never done before. The honors program has expanded my horizons and opened my mind to so many things that I had never been exposed to before.
How do you think the program will benefit you in the future? What kinds of things has the program helped prepare you to do in the future?
I think that it will continue to offer me opportunities to serve the community and myself. The program has helped prepare me for handling and overcoming difficult environments in the future.
How has the program improved your experience as a Hood student?
The program has provided me with experiences that I have never had and may not have had otherwise.
What special academic, co-curricular, social and enrichment opportunities does the Honors Program provide (perhaps that you might not have otherwise)?
The Honors Program allowed me to take enlightening discussion based classes instead of the basic core curriculum. They provide many activities for their students, like dinners and shows. It allows my fellow honors program friends and I to get together an enjoy experiences we probably have otherwise.
What is the best/most distinctive/most memorable part of Hood’s Honors Program?
It’s hard to decide on just one, since I’ve had so many different kinds of experiences, it’s hard to compare. I think that running the honors ice cream social for the freshmen for the past 2 years has been one of the most memorable parts of my time in the program. The activities are always so much fun to plan, hopefully those playing think they’re fun to do as well, and getting to know the freshmen coming in is always such a great experience.
What’s your advice to future Honors Program students?
Take advantage of every opportunity that the program provides. Whether it’s a show, a dinner, or a service project. You get so many things that other students don’t and Go to everything you can fit in your schedule. It will be worth it.
The Honors Program has made my time at Hood so much more valuable and I could not imagine a better college experience for myself.
