How has a Hood education benefitted you?

Since graduating from Hood College this past December, I was able to get multiple teaching positions through Frederick County Public Schools as a long-term substitute. I was also accepted for a job with Teach for America, and will be teaching in Arkansas for the next 2 years.

How did your time at Hood prepare you for your graduate coursework or career?

Hood prepared me for my career because they gave me the knowledge, encouragement, support, tools, and strategies that I needed by having professors who were really invested in their students.

How did you find the transition?

I found the transition from college to my career to be a smooth one because I was already in a Frederick County Public School placement for my student teaching, and then I was hired as a long-term substitute.

Did you participate in extracurricular activities?

I did not complete any extracurricular experiences at Hood.

Did you decide on your major right away?

Yes, I knew I wanted to pursue my Early Childhood Education major right away, before even entering college. The program that Hood offers was one of the many factors in me choosing Hood College.

What is your favorite memory of Hood?

There are so many memories! I would say being a part of the preschool graduation, and having the ability to teach these awesome students was a memory I will never forget! The long lasting friendships that I built while at Hood encompass so many memories that I will cherish as well!

Who was your mentor at Hood?

Brittany (Lethbridge) Felkner because she really helped me to get a feel for the campus when I first started, and was always there to lend a helping hand or word of encouragement.

What is your opinion on the value of a Hood education?

I think having a Hood education is highly valued, especially for education majors because it is one of the top ranked schools in this field.

What would you say to students applying to Hood?

I would tell them that it went by very quickly, and I spent too little time in clubs and organizations that Hood offered. I certainly think that being a part of one the organizations would have benefited my overall college experience.

What role has your Hood education played in your career?

It has helped me to attain my career because I received a Bachelor’s Degree at a Maryland college, which allows me to teach in almost all states.

Why did you choose to attend Hood College?

I chose Hood for my undergraduate program because it was ranked one of the top schools for an ECE program, it was close to home, and it was a small campus that allowed me to be who I am in and not just another number.
